RSS
KATHMANDU: Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that major political parties should zero in on concluding the peace and statute-drafting processes within the next three months.

Speaking at an interaction in the Capital, the former prime minister said unity among the political parties is a must to move ahead with positive attitude for the next three months to conclude the twin processes.

He urged the political leaders not to waste the three months by trading charges against each other.

The Maoist chairman also expressed commitment to peace and constitution and added that the parties can complete the most important tasks at hand if they hold serious discussions to sort out disputed issues.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said the Special Committee should be made more effective.

He stressed the need to agree on regrouping of PLA combatants and the modality of integration before the beginning the army integration process.

The NC leader said his party believes that the completion of the peace process should precede the promulgation of the constitution.

Vice-chairman of the CPN-UML, Bamdev Gautam, said his party’s support to the government will hinge on its actions. He suggested Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai to move ahead for peace and constitution taking bold decisions.

Rastriya Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC said political parties should launch programmes keeping the nation and people at the centre. He remarked that leaders’ lust for power had endangered the achievements of people’s movements.

While senior journalist Kishor Nepal said anarchy and impunity would have been a thing of the past had the leaders built consensus on government formation only after agreeing on the statue-writing process.

NC leader Narayan Khadka, former minister Ganesh Shah, vice chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Pradip Raj Pandey, civil society leaders Shyam Shrestha, Renu Rajbhandari and Padma Ratna Tuladhar and others appealed to the leaders to build a consensus on national agendas for the sake of peace and the statute.
