Head of State endorses truth commission ordinance

President Ram Baran Yadav has given his seal of approval to an ordinance prepared by the outgoing government to form a commission to probe into wartime cases of rights abuse and enforced disappearances.
The President's office said in a statement that the ordinance was endorsed as per Article 88 of the Interim Constitution.

Shital Niwas had been shelving almost all ordinances submitted by the Bhattrai government after the dissolution of the CA. An earlier version of the ordinance had been widely crticised for encorporating provisions of general amnesty for violators of human rights during the conflict-- a provision deemed unacceptable by the rights and international communities.
